new project announcement!

a couple weeks ago i alluded to a new project that was taking shape, and while a few details are yet to be worked out, i am so excited to announce that on the evening of Tuesday, March 4, the UMass Lowell choirs and chamber orchestra will perform my latest rendition of “And I Am Still Searching,” a short meditative song by Pete Seeger which i adapted into a short piece for mixed choir, children’s choir and string quartet back in 2022. i dedicated this piece then and still now to my Tante (Aunt) Ingrid, having completed the first version just after she passed away in October, 2022.

that november, 2022, i got to conduct the initial performance of that first version when the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, The Most. Rev. Michael Curry came to visit and preach at the church where I work, St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, NH. the performance was made immeasurably more special because several family members could be there in-person, and many more tuned in online from afar to hear the performance of the piece as well.

last winter, i took some time to expand this small piece into a larger work, and now i have done so again for the UML ensembles who are taking it on. i feel deeply honored that Director of Choral Activities Dr. Jonathan Richter approached me about this opportunity, and that he is as enamored of the message of this simple piece as i am. i look forward to sharing more on this as we approach the performance.
