tonight, tomorrow

this project, my adaptation of “And I am still searching,” by Pete Seeger, will be performed tomorrow, Tuesday, March 4 at UMass Lowell. by real people. human singers and instrumentalists. tonight i get to attend the dress rehearsal and offer some guidance. professor Nicole Parks, orchestra director at UML will perform the solo violin part, and Dr. Jonathan Richter, director of choral activities, will conduct the combined ensembles.

i marvel at the fact that although my percussion ensembles have made it far beyond the walls of my own rehearsal rooms and out into the world, this is the first time that one of my choral works will be performed (to my knowledge) and i am not the one programming or conducting it. that’s a wild feeling! my children are young, but we have had the experience of dropping one of them off at summer camp for a 2-week session… and this feeling is not unlike it. out of my hands, and i get to sit back and experience it as a spectator — wild!
